The renewable energy company IberBlue Wind, a joint venture between the Irish company Simply Blue Group and Spanish companies Proes Consultores, Amper Group, and FF NEV, will develop two cross-border floating offshore wind projects totalling 1.96 GW on the North Atlantic coast, located on the maritime border between Spain and Portugal.
The two projects will span an area of about 530 km2 off the coasts of Baixo Miño in Pontevedra (Spain) and Viana do Castelo (Portugal). The Juan Sebastián Elcano wind park will consist of 29 wind turbines rated 18 MW each, which will give it a capacity of 522 MW, and will be located off Spain, while the Creoula wind project, located off Portugal, will have 80 turbines rated 18 MW each and a total installed capacity of 1,440 MW.
Once operational, the two wind parks will have the capacity to supply electricity to over 1 million Spanish and Portuguese households. They are expected to require an investment of around €4bn for their construction and maintenance.
IberBlue Wind is also developing the 990 MW Botafogo floating offshore wind project off the coast of Figueira da Foz in central Portugal and another 990 MW floating offshore wind project off the coast of Andalusia in southern Spain, named Nao Victoria.
