HyperStrong has broken ground for the construction of the 400 MW/1.6 GWh GigaBattery Boxberg 400 project in Saxony (Germany) for LEAG Clean Power (HyperStrong press release, 01/09/2026).
The Boxberg project is being built on a six-hectare rehabilitated site at the former Boxberg power plant. The facility is planned to connect to the 50Hertz transmission grid through a new 380 kV substation and could theoretically supply electricity to around 640,000 households for four hours.
The project forms part of LEAG’s GigaBattery pipeline, which also includes the planned 1 GW/4 GWh GigaBattery Jänschwalde project, bringing the company’s announced battery storage portfolio to 1.4 GW/5.6 GWh.
