The Norwegian company Höegh LNG Holdings has signed a binding 10-year charter deal with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action for its 170,000 cbm floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Höegh Gannet, which will be moored at the Elbhafen LNG import terminal in Brunsbüttel (northern Germany). The FSRU is expected to arrive in the port of Brunsbüttel in the coming days.
The Elbhafen LNG terminal, developed by RWE and its subsidiary Elbehafen LNG and operated by the state-owned firm Deutsche Energy Terminal GmbH, will be the third operational FSRU-based terminal in Germany and the second out of five backed by the German government.
This is Höegh’s second 10-year deal with Germany after the contract for the FSRU Höegh Esperanza. The vessel was received in December 2022 at the Wilhelmshaven LNG terminal, which became Germany’s first LNG import terminal. The other FSRU, Neptune, was chartered by France’s TotalEnergies earlier in January 2023 and is located in the port of Lubmin.
