Hive Hydrogen launches RfPs for green ammonia project (1 Mt/year)

Hive Hydrogen has released a request for proposals (RfPs) to 15 shortlisted engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) entities for the development of its 1 Mt/year Coega Green Ammonia Project in South Africa. The US$5.8bn Coega Green Ammonia Project has been under development since 2020 and it aims to produce and export green-hydrogen-derived green ammonia to the Far East and Europe from its production facility in the Coega Special Economic Zone once completed by 2029-2030.

The ammonia project also consists of a 1,430 MW solar PV cluster of nine solar power plants and two clusters of 5 wind power plants with a combined capacity of 1,879 MW, as well as it seeks to develop plants for seawater abstraction, desalination and demineralisation and storage facilities. The solar cluster has already been constructed, and it should supply 40% of the project’s energy needs.
