Hitachi Energy and Sun Africa partner to develop solar PV projects in Africa

Japan’s Hitachi Energy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sun Africa and its sister company UGT Renewables to collaborate on solar PV power generation projects on the African continent. In the MoU, both parties agree to collaborate at an early stage of prospective projects. They will jointly engage with local and international stakeholder and provide integrated solar power solutions that will enable developing nations to take steps toward environmentally sustainable electrification.

The partners are currently building their first project together, which is a 370 MW solar PV power plant located across seven sites in Angola. Hitachi and Sun Africa also have several utility-scale projects under negotiation, totalling more than 12 GW in capacity, with various governments in Africa and Eurasia.
