Hindustan Salts issues tenders to develop 5 GW of solar projects (India)

Sambhar Salts, an affiliate of the Indian state-owned salt production company Hindustan Salts, has issued a tender to develop an ultra-mega solar project of up to 4 GW at Sambhar in Jaipur, Rajasthan (India). In addition, the company has issued an Expression of Interest (EoI) to build and operate a solar project of up to 1 GW capacity at Kharaghoda in Surendranagar, Gujarat. The bidding deadline for both tenders is 13 December 2021. The projects will be developed on land owned by Hindustan Salts Limited. The selected developers will be responsible for installing the capacity, securing all permits and sell the power through power purchase agreements (PPAs). In addition, the successful bidders will sign 25-year operation and maintenance (O&M) contracts after the plants are commissioned.

Solar accounts for 9% of India’s installed capacity, with 37.5 GW (end-2020). The country aims to develop 175 GW of renewable power capacity by 2022, including 100 GW of solar, and 450 GW by 2030.
