Hess produces first gas at the 4 bcm/year NMB phase 3 project (Malaysia)

Hess Exploration and Production Malaysia, a subsidiary of the US oil and gas company Hess Corporation, has produced the first natural gas from the 400 mcf/day (4.1 bcm/year) North Malay Basin (NMB) Phase 3 project, located in Block Pm302, 290 km offshore peninsular Malaysia in the South China Sea.

The NMB Phase 3 project was approved in 2019 and is part of a multi-phase development, including the installation of a Bergading-B Wellhead Platform which added 100 mcf/day (1 bcm/year) of gas supply from Block Pm302, bringing the total production of the Phase 3 project to 4.1 bcm/year. The block is operated by Hess Exploration and Production Malaysia with a 50% participating interest, in partnership with Malaysian oil and gas company Petronas, which owns the remaining 50%.

In 2021, Malaysia produced 71.1 bcm of natural gas and its gas reserves reached 2,179 bcm.
