Harbin Electric wins bids for two 2 GW coal-fired power projects in China

Harbin Electric Power Plant, a subsidiary of Harbin Electric Power Group, has secured turbines and equipment orders for two large coal-fired power projects in China. The company will supply two 1,000 MW steam turbine generators, two BEST generators and converter control systems for the 2x1,000 MW Shaanxi Coal Miluo project in the Hunan Province, and two 1,000 MW steam turbine generators for the second phase of the Shaanxi Coal Shanggao Clean Coal Power Expansion Project in the Jiangxi Province. Harbin Electric had already supplied two turbine generators in the first phase that are installed as planned.

As of end-2023, coal-fired capacity still represented 43% of China’s installed capacity with 1,253 GW and 62% of its power generation with 5,845 TWh. This share has been reducing as China ramped up the development of renewable energy.
