Thailand’s Gulf MTP LNG Terminal Company Limited (GMTP) has signed an engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) contract with the PEC-CAZ Consortium for the superstructure development of the Map Ta Phut Industrial Port Phase 3 project in Thailand, which will include the country’s third LNG terminal with an initial capacity of 8 Mt/year.
Gulf MTP LNG Terminal Company Limited is a joint venture between Thailand’s Gulf Development Company (70%) and PTT Tank (30%), an affiliate of Thailand’s state-owned PTT. The PEC-CAZ Consortium consists of South Korea’s POSCO Eco & Challenge Company (PEC) and Thailand’s CAZ.
They will jointly undertake the design, construction, and operation of regasification facilities for Thailand’s third LNG terminal at Map Ta Phut, with an initial capacity of 8 Mt/year, expandable to 10.8 Mt/year. Construction of the superstructure is scheduled to begin in Q4 2025, with commercial operations expected to start in Q1 2029.
Thailand’s LNG imports, which began in 2011, reached around 11 Mt in 2023, representing 78% of total gas imports. The country currently has two LNG import terminals, both owned by PTT: Map Ta Phut, commissioned in 2011 and expanded in 2018 to 11.5 Mt/year, and Nong Fab in Rayong, commissioned in 2022 with a capacity of 7.5 Mt/year.
