Gulf Energy commissions a 662.5 MW unit at the Chon Buri CCGT plant, Thailand

The Thai power producer Gulf Energy has commissioned the 662.5 MW fourth unit of the Chon Buri combined-cycle gas-fired power plant, located in the Sriracha district of the Chon Buri province (central Thailand). The 2.65 GW Chon Buri power plant already possessed three 662.5 MW units commissioned in March 2021 (Unit 1), October 2021 (Unit 2) and March 2022 (Unit 3).

Gulf Energy is currently developing another gas-fired power plant project which will also be comprised of four 662.5 MW units that are expected to be commissioned between March 2023 and October 2024. Gulf Energy has already secured 25-year power purchase agreements (PPA) with Egat, Thailand’s electricity generating authority, for both gas-fired plants.

In 2021, gas-fired generation represented 51% of Thailand’s installed capacity with nearly 28 GW and 63% of its power generation with more than 113 TWh.
