GSPC (Thailand) targets 8 GW of renewable capacity

Global Power Synergy (GPSC), the power generation branch of Thailand's largest energy group and national oil company PTT, has set a target of reaching 8,000 MW of renewable power capacity in the next decade, a surge from the 500 MW it currently operates. Several domestic and international projects are expected to be commissioned soon, including the 64 MW Nam Lik 1 hydropower project and the 1,285 MW Xayaburi hydropower project in Laos, and the 45 MW Central Utility Plant 4 in Rayong, Thailand.

This renewable target would be in line with PTT's strategy to cut greenhouse gas emissions and with GPSC's ambition to be on of the three largest private producers within five years. The company, which was ranking behind Ratch (8 GW of total power capacity), Gulf Energy Development (5.3 GW) and Electricity Generating Company (EGCO) (4.3 GW), recently acquired Glow Energy, reaching a total capacity of nearly 5 GW.
