Greenlink Interconnector (Ireland - UK) reaches financial close

The 500 MW Greenlink subsea and underground HVDC electricity interconnector between Pembroke in Wales (United Kingdom) and the County Wexford in Ireland has reached financial close. The 190 km long project is supported under the Cap and Floor regulatory regimes in the UK and Ireland and represents a total investment of over €500m. Partners Group has secured debt financing for the project with a consortium of banks to finance the construction. The contract for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) was awarded in September 2021 to a consortium comprised of Siemens Energy and Sumitomo Electric. Onshore works have started in Wexford and Pembrokeshire and the project will have a three-year construction period, before commissioning at the end of 2024.
