Green Capital and Prime Capital have announced the signing of strategic agreements to jointly realize two Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Poland with a combined capacity of 300 MW/1.2 GWh. The first project is in advanced-stage, with construction scheduled to commence in the second quarter of 2026, while the second project is on the track to achieve Ready-to-Build (RTB) status by the end of 2026. Both projects have successfully secured 17-year capacity market contracts providing fixed availability payments for their BESS capacity and underpinning the commercial viability of the portfolio.
In March 2025, the Polish government initiated a EUR1bn (USD1.08bn) capital expenditure (CAPEX) support scheme for grid-supporting BESS. This program, managed by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management under the Ministry of Environment, aims to improve the stability of the National Power Grid (KSE) and energy security by supporting the construction of electricity storage facilities of at least 2 MW/4 MWh connected to the transmission and distribution (T&D) networks (KEI, 31/03/2025).
