Goldwind Capital has submitted the 600 MW Milpulling wind project with a 250 MW/1 GWh BESS, for federal environmental assessment under Australia’s Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act (Australian government press release, 26/06/2026).
The project includes up to 76 wind turbines rated at up to 10 MW each, planned for installation in New South Wales (NSW), within the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone. The four-hour BESS is designed as a DC-coupled system located within the project’s turbine infrastructure areas.
Supporting infrastructure includes up to two substations, around 90 km of underground cabling, an internal 66 kV overhead line and connection to the National Electricity Market through a 132 kV transmission line and switchyard. The project is also being assessed as State Significant Development in NSW.
NSW aims to install up to 56 GWh of new storage capacity by 2030 to allow for higher renewable integration and increase the flexibility of the grid. Australia aims to reach 82% of renewable electricity generation by 2030 (Enerdata’s Global Energy Research).
