Golden Pass LNG has achieved first LNG production from the first of 3 LNG trains comprising the 18 Mt/year project in Sabine Pass, Texas (United States) (QatarEnergy press release, 30/03/2026). The milestone sets the project to deliver its first cargo from its facilities, by achieving sustained liquefaction operations and meeting its commercial and strategic objectives.
The 18 Mt/year Golden Pass project is a partnership between QatarEnergy (70%) and ExxonMobil (30%). The project achieved in February 2019 a final investment decision (FID) of more than USD10bn for its development. Exports from the project are expected to start in the second quarter of 2026.
The Qatari Minister of State for Energy Affairs and president and CEO of QatarEnergy said that the project is aligned with “plans announced by QatarEnergy in 2018 to invest USD20bn in the US energy sector” and its hopes for it to “play an important role in supporting global energy security and a fair and balanced access to cleaner energy.”
