According to the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), more than 63 GW of wind capacity were installed worldwide in 2015, with China accounting for nearly half of capacity additions (30.5 GW).
Europe installed 13.8 GW, including 12.8 GW in the European Union, with Germany having installed 6,013 MW, followed by Poland with 1,266 MW, France with 1,073 MW and the United Kingdom with 975 MW. North America installed 10.8 GW, with 8.6 GW installed in the United States (reaching 74 GW of installed capacity), 1.5 GW in Canada (to 11.2 GW) and 714 MW in Mexico (to 3.1 GW). India installed 2.6 GW, reaching 25 GW, while Brazil commissioned 2.75 GW of new wind parks, reaching 8.7 GW. South Africa passed the 1 GW milestone, thanks to 483 MW of new projects commissioned in 2015.
This 63 GW increase marks an acceleration in wind power development, compared to the 35.8 GW added in 2013 and the 51.7 GW added in 2014.
