Glenfarne signs deals to progress 20 Mt/year Alaska LNG project (US)

Glenfarne Alaska LNG, a subsidiary of Glenfarne Group and the majority owner of the Alaska LNG Project in the United States, has announced significant milestones that move Phase One of the project from development into early execution (Glenfarne Group press release, 23/01/2026).

Among the key developments, Glenfarne has provisionally selected Worley Limited to provide Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) services for Phase One. For pipeline construction, the company has announced conditional awards to several firms, including MasTec, Quanta Services, Michels Pipeline, and VINCI Construction. In parallel, Glenfarne has executed gas sales precedent agreements with ExxonMobil and Hilcorp Alaska LLC to secure gas supply for the pipeline.

Since becoming lead developer of Alaska LNG in March 2025, Glenfarne has secured preliminary commercial commitments from major LNG buyers in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand for a total of 11 Mt/year of LNG. The company has also established strategic partnerships with industry players: Baker Hughes has joined as an investor and supplier of LNG and power equipment, Danaos as an investor supporting the construction and operation of at least six LNG carriers, and POSCO International as an investor, LNG offtaker, and steel supplier.

The Alaska LNG Project is being developed through 8 Star Alaska LLC, which is 75% owned by Glenfarne and 25% by the State of Alaska through the Alaska Gasline Development Corporation. The project comprises three sub-projects: a 1,298 km pipeline, a 20 Mt/year LNG export terminal in Nikiski, and a carbon capture facility on the North Slope expected to remove 7 Mt/year of CO₂. Glenfarne is executing the project in two phases: the first phase focuses on constructing a pipeline to supply domestic energy needs (expected in 2028-2029), while the second phase will establish the LNG liquefaction terminal and related infrastructure to export 20 Mt/year of LNG.
