Glenfarne buys 588 MW solar and 1.61 GWh BESS assets in Chile

Energy and infrastructure investor Glenfarne Group has acquired a portfolio of solar PV and co-located battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Chile from Greece-headquartered Metlen Energy & Metals (Glenfarne press release, 29/12/2025).

The acquisition covers four operational solar PV projects with a combined capacity of 588 MW, along with associated BESS facilities totaling 1.61 GWh of storage capacity.

The projects are located in northern Chile, a region known for having some of the highest levels of solar irradiance globally according to the company’s press release. The solar assets are fully operational, while Metlen is expected to complete the associated BESS installations during the first half of 2026.
