According to the Queensland Resources Council (Australia), LNG exports from the port of Gladstone hit record figures in 2018, totalling 20.58 Mt, which is 2% above the previous record of 20.23 Mt set in 2017. These figures include the three LNG export facilities located in the neighbourhood of Gladstone: Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG, led by Origin-ConocoPhillips), Gladstone LNG GLNG, (operated by Santos) and Queensland Curtis LNG (QCLNG, led by Shell).
This growth was driven by an energy-hungry East Asia as China was the largest customer with nearly 14.25 Mt (+23% year-on-year), followed by South Korea (3.22 Mt, -18%) and Japan (1.6 Mt, -40%). China alone accounted for 57% of the Gladstone Port LNG shipments in 2017 and 69% in 2018. Exports were shipped to four other countries, of which Malaysia (0.88 Mt, +26%), Singapore (0.47 Mt, -20%), the United Arab Emirates and the Philippines.
