GIGA Storage secures financing for 700 MW/2.8 GWh project in Belgium

European energy storage operator GIGA Storage has obtained EUR450m (USD514m) in debt financing to develop its Green Turtle project in Belgium, which will deliver a storage capacity of 700 MW/2.8 GWh (GIGA Storage press release, 10/07/2026).

The Green Turtle battery energy storage facility will be built at the Rotem industrial estate in Dilsen-Stokkem, near the Dutch and German borders. During periods of peak demand, the installation will be capable of providing enough electricity to match the daily consumption of around 385,000 households.

“Tesla was selected as the EPC partner and is supplying the energy storage systems with the latest Megablock technology, handling the engineering and construction, and is responsible for long-term maintenance”, said the company.

Construction is expected to begin in September 2026, and the project is planned to become fully operational in 2028.

GIGA Storage aims to have more than 2 GW of storage capacity in operation by 2030.
