GIGA Storage obtains grid permission for a 350 MW/1.4 GWh BESS in Germany

GIGA Storage and the German power transmission system operator (TSO) Amprion have signed a grid connection agreement for the 350 MW/1.4 GWh Albatross BESS project in Lower Saxony, Germany (GIGA Storage press release, 14/10/2026). The agreement represents Amprion’s first for a large-scale battery storage project.

Albatross will connect to Amprion’s 380 kV transmission grid via the Merzen substation, next to the site. The system offers about four hours of storage at full power. It reached Ready to Build status in early October 2026, and commissioning is planned for 2028. The battery chemistry and the investment value were not disclosed.
