Ghana's VRA takes over a 250 MW gas-fired power barge from Ameri

Ghana, through the state-owned power utility Volta River Authority (VRA), has officially taken over full ownership of the 250 MW Ameri gas-fired power plant from the African and Middle East Resources Investment (Ameri) Group after the expiry of the five-year production and sale of power agreement signed between the country and the United Arab Emirates-based company. The 10-unit floating power plant (10 x 25 MW) is set to be moved from Aboadze in the Western region to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region by the end of 2022 to help stabilise the national power grid. Ameri entered into an agreement with the country to build a 250 MW gas-fired plant in Aboadze under a 5-year build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) contract in 2015. Commissioning took place in 2016.
