Sentuo Group, a Chinese company, has started work on the expansion of the Sentuo oil refinery in Tema (eastern Ghana) to increase refining capacity from 40 kb/d (2 Mt/year) to 100 kb/d (5 Mt/year). The refinery started operating in January 2024 (27/06/2026).
The country has currently a total refining capacity of about 85 kb/d (4.3 Mt/year), with a second refinery operated by the state-owned company Tema Oil Refinery (45 kb/d or 2.3 Mt/year), which restarted operations in December 2025.
In 2024, Ghana produced only 0.4 Mt of refined products. Around 5.2 Mt of petroleum products were imported that same year.
