WPD offshore Australia Holding, part of Germany’s WPD Group, has entered a 50/50 joint venture with the UK’s Australis Energy to develop three offshore wind projects totalling 1.4 GW off the coast of the Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia states. When completed, the projects are expected to power 930,000 Australian homes.
Australis Energy has already the first two phases of the project, and under this new joint venture, WPD Group will participate in completing Phase 3 of the project. WPD offshore Australia Holding will be involved in completing environmental studies, environmental impact assessments, planning, permitting, and licensing for the projects.
In 2021, wind power accounted for 11% of Australia’s installed capacity with 9 GW and 9% of its power generation with 24.5 TWh. The country did not yet possess any offshore wind capacity in 2021.
