Germany's third FSRU project starts supplying gas to the grid

The Elbehafen LNG terminal, located in Brunsbüttel (Schleswig-Holstein) in northern Germany, has started injecting gas into the German gas transmission system. RWE, the project's developer, received the Hoegh Gannet floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) in early 2023 and received its first cargo of LNG in February 2023, as agreed with ADNOC (United Arab Emirates) in 2022. The project is expected to enter commercial operations in April 2023 and will be the third LNG import terminal in the country.

In a first phase, the FSRU will be operated at Brunsbüttel Ports' existing dangerous goods jetty. A new jetty will be built for the project (construction in 2023) and the capacity of the terminal will be progressively raised from 3.5 bcm/year (due to infrastructural bottlenecks) to around 7.5 bcm/year.
