The German Bundestag has voted in favour of expanding the LNG gas infrastructure in Germany. The draft law, proposed by the Federal Government, aims to amend the LNG Acceleration Act and the Energy Industry Act to Secure National Energy Supply. The law aims to accelerate the construction of long-distance gas pipelines, clarify requirements for subsequent use, and promote the use of hydrogen derivatives. The Energy Industry Act will specify the approval of connection lines for LNG systems. The fast-track process aims to expedite the typically lengthy application process to weeks or months. The government plans to include the location of Mukran on Rügen for LNG import and potential development of port infrastructure for hydrogen and its derivatives.
