Germany’s DET starts operations at Wilhelmshaven 2 LNG import plant

Deutsche Energy Terminal GmbH (DET), a state-owned German company responsible for operating terminals has started commercial operations at its second LNG terminal in Wilhelmshaven, in Lower Saxony (Germany), following a successful commissioning phase. The terminal, which is operated by the Lithuanian company KN Energies, had already received its approval under hazardous incident regulations from the Oldenburg Trade Supervisory Authority (GAA) without any objections.

The terminal includes a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), Excelsior, owned and operated by the US company Excelerate Energy with an initial capacity of 1.9 bcm/year. Its regasification and grid feed-in capacity is expected to reach 4.6 bcm/year by 2027. These capacities, offered to the market in July 2025, were fully purchased by traders, as were all capacities for 2026.
