The 913 MW Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind project has started supplying its first energy to the German grid, according to a press release from Jan De Nul (04/12/2025). The Borkum Riffgrund 3 wind project, jointly owned by Ørsted and Nuveen Infrastructure, is located 37 km off the coast of the German Wadden Island of Borkum. Once fully operational in the first quarter of 2026, the wind project will provide electricity for around one million German households.
With 8.9 GW operational at the end of 2024, offshore wind accounted for 3% of Germany’s total capacity and around 5% of power generation in 2024.
