Germany presents new strategy for energy efficiency and renewable heat

The Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology of Germany (BMWi) has unveiled its new "Energy Efficiency and Heat from Renewable Energies" promotion strategy.

The new funding strategy will be used to optimize consulting and investment programs, including ending with the promotion of purely fossil heating systems in 2019. It will gradually reform the budget-financed energy efficiency promotion offers by 2020 and will form four distinct support points: energy consulting, energy efficient buildings and energy efficiency in industry and trade as well as heat infrastructure. Priority will be given to the two major funding programmes in the building sector, i.e. the CO2 Building Restoration Program (KfW programme for energy-efficient construction and redevelopment) and the market incentive program for renewable energies in the heat market. Restructuring of the support programs will take place between 2017 and 2019.
