Germany and Greece plan new LNG import terminals

Tree Energy Solutions (TES) and AtlasInvest plan to build an LNG import terminal in the German North Sea port town of Wilhelmshaven (Lower Saxony). Commissioning is scheduled in 2025. The project is expected to receive investments of €25bn by 2045 and could bring up to 30 bcm of natural gas to Germany in the first few years.

In addition, the Greek gas company Gastrade has submitted an application for a new Independent Natural Gas System (INGS) license to the Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) of Greece. The new project, “Thrace INGS”, will consist of a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) and will be developed at the Sea of Thrace, offshore Alexandroupolis. The project will have a storage capacity of 170,000 cbm and will be able to regasify 5.5 bcm/year of natural gas.
