Germany and Denmark agree on hydrogen pipeline interconnection project

The German Ministry of Economy and Climate of Germany and the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities of Denmark have agreed to develop a land-based hydrogen pipeline that would enable hydrogen exports from Denmark to Germany as of 2028. The hydrogen pipeline project, whose capacity has not been specified, would strengthen the PtX agreement signed in March 2022 in Denmark and would help the German industry decarbonate its operations.

In March 2022, the Danish government launched a DKK 1.25bn (€167m) subsidy scheme supporting PtX projects to reach Danemark’s goal of 4-6 GW of electrolyser capacity by 2030. The subsidy scheme will have the form of a tender supporting the development of hydrogen production for both domestic and export markets. It will support the development of green hydrogen and infrastructures to produce green fuels for the heavy road, maritime and aerospace transport sectors.
