German North Sea offshore wind increases by around 8%

The Dutch-German power transmission system operator TenneT has announced data from wind power generation during 2024. The total wind feed-in result in Germany in 2024 was around 150 TWh (up from 140 TWh in 2023), of which onshore wind contributed with around 124.3 TWh and offshore wind with 25.7 TWh (including 20.8 TWh that were produced on the North Sea and 4.9 TWh in the Baltic Sea).

The German North Sea energy production grew by 8% in 2024 but its share in the total wind energy production remained stable at around 14%, raising concerns about the efficiency of the installed capacity and the need of intelligent re-zoning to reach higher energy yields and save operational costs. At the end of 2024, 7,387 MW of offshore wind parks were installed in the North Sea and 1,828 MW in the Baltic Sea.

According to its NECP, Germany targets to install 160 GW of wind onshore and 40 GW of wind offshore by 2040.
