German network operators plan two 100 MW power-to-gas projects

Two power-to-gas projects of 100 MW each have been submitted to the Germany energy regulator, the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA).

The first 100 MW project, Element Eins, is developed by TenneT, Gasunie Deutschland and Thyssengas. It would convert electricity generated by the North Sea wind parks into hydrogen in Diele or Conneforde in Lower Saxony, starting in 2022. Gas could be transported to the Ruhr area through existing gas pipelines or sold to industry via hydrogen filling stations for mobility and storage in caverns.

The second project, the 100 MW pilot plant "Hybridge", is developed by Amprion and Open Grid Europe (OGE) in the Lingen region. The companies plan to build an electrolyzer and to convert part of the existing open Grid Europe gas network to transport pure hydrogen. The produced hydrogen could also be used for the mobility sector or for the heat sector.
