Project company German LNG Terminal, the developer of an LNG import terminal in Brunsbüttel, has signed another long-term commercial capacity agreement with an unnamed global LNG player. The two parties agreed on the commitment of a significant part of the terminal capacity, showing the strong market demand and interest in the project. In September 2018, the German energy company RWE showed its interest in the project and signed a heads of agreement (HoA) with German LNG Terminal to guarantee its access to a substantial annual capacity. German LNG Terminal is also negotiating with other interested parties and will apply for permits with a total terminal capacity of 8 bcm/year.
Brunsbüttel LNG would be built in Brunsbüttel near Hamburg. The final investment decision (FID) is expected for late 2019. Construction works could start in 2020 and the terminal could be commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2022. The LNG terminal project is supported by the German Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) and the German transmission system operators (TSOs), which mentioned it in its draft scenario framework for the Gas Network Development Plan (NDP) 2018-2028.
German LNG Terminal is a joint venture (JV) between the Dutch natural gas group Gasunie, the Dutch tank storage company Vopak and the German service provider of tank terminals Oiltanking.
