German developer Sowitec seeks buyers for 32 GW of wind project rights

German renewable energy developer Sowitec has appointed financial advisers Capcora as the exclusive M&A adviser for the project rights owned by Sowitec. The transaction will encompass 32 GW of wind project rights spanning Germany (330 MW), Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico (Capcora press release, 26/08/2026). Under its mandate, Capcora will develop the transaction materials, engage with potential investors, manage the bidding process, and assist with due diligence as well as commercial and contractual negotiations.

Established in 1993SOWITEC is a renewable energy project developer active in both wind and solar. Its activities include site identification, planning, permitting and project structuring across several international markets. The Sowitec Group filed for insolvency in July 2026, referring to illiquidity and over-indebtedness as the reasons.

Explaining the causes of the insolvency, the company’s CEO said: “In addition to the short-term cash flow problem, SoWiTec has been grappling with an increasingly difficult situation in the German wind market over the past 12 months. Tenders for ‘onshore wind’ have been significantly oversubscribed due to numerous newly approved projects. This has led to a sharp fall in prices for electricity supply contracts in the tendering process.” He further noted that most of the wind capacity awarded through tenders has been located in northern Germany, while declining prices have caused margins on projects in the south to contract.

“If policymakers do not react immediately with adjustments, we will soon see a cascade of project developers facing insolvency in southern Germany. Larger market players have already initiated restructuring processes,” he added (PV Tech, 14/07/2026).
