Australian infrastructure contractor GenusPlus has been awarded an engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contract for the Balance of Plant scope and BESS installation for the 200 MW/800 MWh Koolunga battery energy storage system (BESS) in South Australia (GenusPlus press release, 24/04/2026).
Koolunga BESS “is a significant energy storage project located approximately 6 km south-east of Koolunga and 7 km north-east of Brinkworth, South Australia. The BESS will be connected to South Australia’s electricity grid via approximately 1.2 km of HV cable that connects to the 275 kV Brinkworth Substation”, according to the company’s press release.
The project has completed all required planning and environmental approvals and community impact assessments. Works are scheduled to commence shortly, with completion targeted for September 2027.
That project, co-owned by Equis and Victoria’s State Electricity Commission (SEC) features 444 Tesla Megapack units. The Koolunga BESS was selected under Tender 3 of the federal government’s Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS), announced in September 2025.
