Genex acquires the 2 GW Bulli Creek solar-plus-storage project (Australia)

Australian electricity company Genex Power has agreed to acquire a 100% interest in development rights for the Bulli Creek clean energy project, expected to reach a capacity of 2 GW, from its original developer Solar Choice. The project, located in Toowoomba, Queensland (Australia), is expected to be built in five stages beginning with a large-scale battery system. The first stage of development will consist of a proposed 400 MW and 1,600 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). Subsequent stages would add solar PV generation, beginning with an initial 475 MW to 675 MW of PV, eventually adding up to 2 GW.

Solar Choice will continue to provide development services for the project, receiving a development fee at financial close for each stage of the plant. In 2021, Genex Power reached financial close on the 250 MW K2 pumped-storage hydropower project also located in the Australian state of Queensland.
