GEAPP partners with MAHAPREIT to develop 1 GW of solar in Maharashtra (India)

The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) and the Indian company Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technology (MAHAPREIT) have announced a partnership to implement 1 GW of solar projects across the state of Maharashtra (central India). They will collaborate to implement 500 MW of rooftop solar for small and medium enterprises and 500 MW of ground-mounted decentralised solar capacity under India’s PM KUSUM program, a scheme aimed at setting up solar pumps and other new power plants across the country. The capacity is expected to be installed by 2026.

The government of the Indian State of Maharashtra had set a target to reach 22 GW of renewables by 2022, a goal that it did not achieve on time (around 10 GW at end-2022). At the national level, India plans to increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW and meet 50% of its energy requirements from renewables by 2030.
