GE will supply turbines for a 750 MW power project in Pakistan

GE has been awarded a contract from the Government of Pakistan to supply gas turbines for a 750 MW combined-cycle power plant in Guddu. Developed by the Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO), the new facility is expected to be Pakistan’s most efficient and largest combined-cycle plant. The turbines are expected to be shipped to the project site by the end of 2011 and installed by September 2012, with full plant commercial operation expected by mid-2013. The new plant is an expansion for the Guddu site, which already includes steam plants that have been in service for more than 40 years and a combined-cycle plant that has been operating with GE technology since the mid-1980s. In February 2010, GE signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Pakistan to help promote the modernization of the country’s infrastructure and economy. The agreement focuses on the development of Pakistan’s energy resources to meet projected demand of 54,000 MW by 2020.
