GE signs a series of energy agreements for power projects in Vietnam

The government of Vietnam has signed a series of agreements with GE for the development of the Vietnamese energy sector.

GE has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) on the development of two 750 MW CCGT power plants, Mien Trung I & II, that will use gas from the Blue Whale field, the biggest gas project in Vietnam up until now, with an estimated 150 bcm of reserves. The Mien Trung I Plant is expected to begin operations in 2023 and Mien Trung II in 2024.

In addition, GE has signed a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) with its development partners Mainstream Renewable Power and Phu Cuong Group on developing the 800 MW Phu Cuong wind park in Soc Trang province, as agreed in late 2016.

The deal follows a 1 GW initiative signed with the Ministry of Industry and Trade in May 2016 and is an important step in helping Vietnam to develop its significant wind power potential.
