Gazprom's gas production at Bovanenkovskoye field set to increase (Russia)

Russian state-held energy company Gazprom begins start-up operations at the third production facility of the Bovanenkovskoye field (Yamal peninsula, Russia) and its commissioning is scheduled to take place later in 2018.

The Yamal peninsula is a key region for Russia and is estimated to hold gas reserves exceed 16.7 Tcm, of which 4.9 Tcm for Bovanenkovskoye only. Three upstream facilities will be in operation in total: the first one will come online in 2020 and is expected to deliver 60 bcm/year while the second is meant to have a plateau capacity of 30 bcm/year. As of 2017, 82.8 bcm/year were produced at the Bovanenkovskoye field, compared with 67.4 bcm/year in 2016 and 4.9 bcm/year in 2012.

The Bovanenkovskoye production is fed into the Unified Gas Supply System (UGSS) of Russia and shipped via the 1 260 km-long Bovanenkovo – Ukhta gas pipeline and Bovanenkovo-Ukhta 2 gas pipelines. The first one came onstream in 2012 and the second one was commissioned in January 2017, doubling the capacity between the Bovanenkovskoye field and Ukhta up to 115 bcm/year.
