Gazprom signs new partnerships to develop European pipeline projects

Gazprom is negotiating with European gas transmission system operators for the development of two new gas pipeline projects that would enhance Russian gas supply to Europe. The group has inked a cooperation agreement with the Dutch gas transmission system operator Gasunie exploring the possibilities for the Nord Stream gas pipeline expansion as well as setting up other infrastructure projects in Europe aimed at providing uninterrupted supplies to north-western Europe and the UK. Gazprom holds 51% of the 55 bcm/year Nord Stream gas pipeline, Wintershall and E.ON Ruhrgas owing 15.5% each, Gasunie and GDF Suez 9% each.

Earlier this month, Gazprom had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with EuRoPol GAZ, the 50%-50% joint venture of Gazprom and PGNiG in charge of the operation of the Yamal-Europe transit gas pipeline, for the construction of a new line of the pipeline. The 15 bcm/year new pipeline would run towards Slovakia and Hungary via Poland.
