Gazprom gets permit for 2nd string of TurkStream gas project (Turkey)

The Russian state-run gas company Gazprom has received a construction permit from the Turkish authorities for the construction of the offshore section of the second string of the Turkstream gas pipeline project to Turkey.

In May 2017, Gazprom started the construction of the offshore section of the TurkStream project, which will consist of two strings of 15.75 bcm/year each (total capacity of 31.5 bcm/year), delivering Russian gas to Turkey and its European neighbours. The first string of the gas pipeline is intended for Turkish consumers, while the second string will deliver gas to southern and southeastern Europe.

The construction of the Russian onshore side is nearly completed while preparatory works have started on the Turkish side. The US$404m receiving terminal broke ground in September 2017 and is expected to be ready for commercial operations in December 2019.
