Gazprom and CNPC signed MoU on Russia-China gas pipeline project

Gazprom and China state-owned petroleum company CNPC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build a gas pipeline from Russia’s far east to China. The parties have still to determine the key technical and commercial parameters of the project, including terms of delivery as well as a gas delivery point.

In May 2014, Gazprom and CNPC signed the purchase and sale agreement for the Russian gas supply via the eastern route. The 30-year contract provides for Russian gas supplies to China in the amount of 38 bcm/year. Gas supplies under the contract will commence between May 2019 and May 2021. The eastern route (Power of Siberia gas pipeline) will deliver natural gas from the Irkutsk and Yakutia gas production centers to the Russian far east and China. Gazprom announced that prime facilities for eastern route will be completed on schedule in 2018.

In May 2015 the two companies also signed the heads of agreement for pipeline gas supply from Russia to China via the western route (Power of Siberia-2 gas pipelines) that envisages gas supply to China from western Siberia's fields.
