Gaz-System opens non-binding open-season for FSRU project in Poland

The Polish gas transmission system operator (TSO) Gaz-System has GAZ-SYSTEM has launched a non-binding market screening for new gas transmission capacities and for new regasification capacities. The company is considering developing a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) in the area of Gdansk with a minimum capacity of 4.5 bcm/year. The final investment decision will depend on market interest submitted under the non-binding open season and on the following binding phase. The FSRU could be commissioned in 2026-2027.

Gaz-System already fully owns Polskie LNG, the operator of the 5 bcm/year Świnoujście LNG import terminal, and plans to expand the capacity of the regasification terminal and to add a third storage tank. In May 2019, Polskie LNG signed an agreement on an EU grant for expanding the terminal by 2.5 bcm/year to 7.5 bcm/year and adding a third 160,000 m3 storage tank. Since then, the expansion project size has been revised upwards, due to rising domestic gas demand. In June 2020, the company awarded contracts worth PLN1.9bn (€426m) to a consortium of Porr and TGE Gas Engineering for expanding the terminal capacity from 5 bcm/year to 8.3 bcm/year by the end of 2023. In addition, a new 180,000 m3 storage tank will be built on the site.
