Gastrade commissions the 5.5 bcm/year Alexandroupolis LNG Terminal in Greece

Gastrade has announced the start of commercial operations of its 5.5 bcm/year Alexandroupolis LNG Terminal in the Aegean Sea, off the coast of Greece. The LNG terminal project consists of the Alexandroupolis Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU), with an overall delivery capacity of 5.5 bcm/year, and a 28 km subsea and onshore natural gas pipeline that connects the terminal to the Greek National Natural Gas Transmission System. The project is expected to contribute to the energy security and diversification of sources and energy supply routes for Southeast and Central Europe, upgrading Greece’s role and importance as an energy gateway for more than nine countries.

The Alexandroupolis LNG terminal project is owned and managed by Gastrade, a consortium by the Greek gas transmission system operator DESFA (20%), the Greek gas company DEPA (20%), the Greek infrastructure investor Copelouzos Group (20%),  the Bulgarian gas transmission system operator Bulgartransgaz (20%), and the Cypriot owner of LNG carriers GasLog (20%).
