Gas production from the Zohr field (Egypt) rises to 76 mcm/d

According to the Ministry of Petroleum of Egypt, gas production at the Zohr field, the largest gas field in the Mediterranean, has reached to 2.7 bcf/d (76 mcm/d). The current production level was achieved four months ahead of schedule. Earlier in August, Rosneft announced that the current production level stood at 2.4 bcf/d (68 mcm/d) and that the output would reach 2.7 bcf/d (76 mcm/d) by the end of 2019. The gas field production has been ramping up since late 2017. In February 2019, its production stood at 2.1 bcf/d (59 mcm/d) on average. The Egyptian government aims to increase output to 3 bcf/d (85 mcm/d) by the end of 2019.

The Zohr gas field was discovered by Eni in August 2015 and came onstream in December 2017. Its estimated gas reserves exceed 850 bcm. The project is included in the Shorouk concession, operated by Eni through its subsidiary IEOC (50% stake), in partnership with Rosneft (30%), BP (10%) and Mubadala Petroleum (10%).
