The Indian energy group GAIL has approved plans to set up of 700 MW of solar power projects for captive consumption, in the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra (India Times, 15/04/2026).
Among the projects, GAIL plans to develop a 600 MW solar project in Uttar Pradesh at the TUSCO solar park Jhansi (India) that includes a 550 MWh BESS to enhance reliability and efficiency of power supply. The facility is expected to be completed within 15 months after the signing of its EPC contract and will be funded through a mix of debt and equity. Once completed, the project will primarily supply electricity to GAIL’s Petrochemical Plant at Pata in Auraiya district.
Additionally, the company plans a 100 MW solar project with a 22 MW BESS in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar district in Maharashtra to supply energy to GAIL’s PDH-PP Plant at Usar in Raigad district.
The initiative represents an investment of about INR38bn (USD4à7m), and it marks a significant scale up of GAIL’s solar portfolio (29 MW).
