The 1,000 MW (1,150 MW gross) sixth unit of the Fuqing nuclear power plant in the Fujian province of China has been connected to the grid and has started generating power. This Hualong One reactor is the second reactor of this kind to enter operation in China, after Fuqing-5 in January 2021, and the third one in the world, after the first overseas Hualong One reactor was commissioned in Pakistan in May 2021. Fuqing-6 is expected to generate around 10 TWh/year.
The Fuqing site accommodates six reactors, of which four 1,087 MW Chinese-designed CPR-1000 units commissioned in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. In April 2015, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of China gave its final approval for the construction of two additional Hualong One units, Fuqing-5 and Fuqing-6. The Fuqing nuclear power plant project is owned by China Nuclear Power Company (51%), Huadian Fuxin Energy Company (39%) and Fujian Investment and Development Group (10%).
