French government approves 392 rooftop solar projects worth 230 MW

The French Ministry for an Ecological and Solidary Transition has approved 392 rooftop solar power projects with a total capacity of 230 MW (40% of which to be deployed on agricultural buildings) under a multi-year tenders plan launched in 2016 to develop 1,450 MW of solar capacity over a 3-year period.

This is the 5th solar call for tender organised under the plan. The average price was standing at €76.8/MWh for all selected projects and €72.2/MWh for large-scale projects. This price has kept decreasing in the previous rounds (from €100/MWh in the first tender to €88/MWh, and €81/MWh), showing the growing competitiveness of the French rooftop solar projects.

Besides, the Ministry has also selected 48 winners to develop PV installations for self-consumption, for a total volume of 20 MW. Launched in 2017 for a total volume of 1,350 MW, the call for tenders for self-consumption PV facilities includes 9 bidding rounds spread over 3 years. The winning projects will be able to consume the electricity they produce and will benefit from a premium at a weighted price of €26.8/MWh.
